National Cleaning Week 2021 – Celebrate Standard of Clean

March 28th through April 3rd, 2021 is National Cleaning Week. This week is geared towards industry professionals to celebrate the value of the new standard of clean, recognize the ongoing efforts of frontline commercial cleaning professionals and provide essential workers with opportunities for growth, according to ISSA – the worldwide cleaning industry association. This week-long event is designed to change the way the world views cleaning. The pandemic has presented many challenges for our industry and for the people who rely on cleaning expertise, products and services. National Cleaning Week celebrates the important, positive impact cleaning has on public health, the environment and the economy.  

ISSA has conducted research on how regular and proper cleaning in offices, retail, restaurants, schools and hospitals can result in significant public health and economic benefits. ISSA states that it’s time for facility decision makers to stop thinking of cleaning as a cost and start thinking of it as a profit center. Cleaning is a necessary investment to promote better health, better environment and a better bottom line.  

In the United States, the spread of illnesses results in an average of 7.7 sick days per employee per year. The time employees take away from the workplace annually can cost upwards of $225B and in addition to the direct costs, unplanned absences cause a 54% decrease in productivity and a 39% drop in sales. A less than sparkling clean workplace can have a huge impact on company productivity while a sparkling clean space can prevent the transmission of infectious diseases and protect employees, customers and tenants. A relatively modest investment in an effective cleaning and disinfecting program can help to avoid or significantly reduce the health and economic impacts of infectious diseases.
